Black Panter: Wakanda Forever is gearing up to welcome Dominique Thorne to its cast.

According to Variety, actress Dominique Thorne is officially set to appear in the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Black Panther.

Thorne’s involvement with the sequel is especially significant given that she’ll appear as Ironheart (also known as RiRi Williams) in the forthcoming sequel.

For the uninitiated, the character of Riri Williams made her comic book debut in 2016. She first appeared as a teenaged MIT student who creates her own suit of armor by reverse engineering Iron Man’s own suit.

As fans who’ve been keeping up with Disney+ and Marvel’s burgeoning slate of original series might recall, a Disney+ series centered around the character of Ironhart is already in development over at the streamer.

This means that fans will get a taste of Thorne’s Ironheart via Black Panther: Wakanda Forever before the superhero’s titular series makes its grand debut over at Disney+.

Word of Dominique Thorne signing on for the Black Panther sequel comes straight from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige himself.

“We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first,” said Feige via an interview with ComicBook.com. “She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series.”

Behind the camera, Academy Award nominee Ryan Coogler is on board to once again serve as writer and director on the sequel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
