Despite the fact that Black Adam is a villain to the hero Shazam, The Rock’s version will be getting a solo film in the DCEU.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been cast as the Black Adam for years, with the last major update coming in way back in 2014.

Now, a new update finally gives us hope for the future of this character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line is so interested in The Rock as Black Adam that they’re giving him his own movie while still producing the Shazam film we’ve all been waiting for.

A week ago, Johnson visited DC headquarters and promised good news. The DCEU has been dark and morbid for quite some time now, but with the introduction of Suicide Squad, which infused a surprising amount or color and humor into the universe, the shift in tone has been noticeable.

The decision to give Johnson his own film centering on the character is apparently because of his burgeoning superstar status. He voiced Maui in Disney’s Moana, and he’s taking on such major reboots as Baywatch and Jumanji, just to name a few of his recent projects.

In his solo film, Black Adam will be acting more as an anti-hero, kind of like Harley, Deadshot, and the others who made up the team in Suicide Squad.

Are you excited to see Black Adam get his own movie?
