Avengers: Age of Ultron will be the first time we’ll see actor Paul Bettany as The Vision, and while the actor has kept quiet about his role, he’s revealed that we’ll be seeing him in future Marvel films.

After being incredibly tight-lipped about his role in Age of Ultron, Bettany has revealed in a new report that his character, “will be a recurring role.” Bettany plays The Vision in The Avengers’ sequel, a character which has barely seen any promotion, but will apparently end up being a key member of the team in future films.

When asked about his past acting career, Bettany says, “I’ve never known if I have had a job six months out ever in my life. And now I know that they [Marvel] have plans and I can be even more judicious about the stuff that I do outside of that work. I can wait for the right thing and feel really attached to it.”

He also discussed the fact that even though he’d been in four Marvel films prior to Age of Ultron, as Iron Man’s voice-butler J.A.R.V.I.S., he actually hadn’t seen most of Marvel’s films, even the Iron Man films he’d been in.

In anticipation for his role as The Vision, he did a lot of research, saying, “My research was watching all of the films. I realised they are so interlinked and I wanted to understand the universe I was in. So I did and it was a really amazing, fun experience — especially going from my tiny, 20-day movie with no money and no trailers to this behemoth film was just great.”

The actor has had some great roles in his career, but as he mentioned, a lot of them were in films that many people haven’t seen. He mentioned his role in Master and Commander alongside Russell Crowe, where he played a doctor in the British Navy in 1805. While it actually won two Academy Awards back in 2003, his performance went somewhat unnoticed by the average moviegoer.

When comparing Age of Ultron’s sets to his previous experiences, he says, “Everybody made me feel really at home and I have no bad stories — they are really funny people and really creative. I have never seen sets that big in my whole career. I have never seen set pieces like it — we were in a set that felt like a town.”

It’s funny to think that Bettany has been in four Marvel films prior to Age of Ultron as the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S., but this is the first time he’s actually been on a Marvel set. He’s said previously that he’s lucked out before with Marvel, as he only had to, “show up to a voice recording studio, they [Marvel] would hand me a big bag of cash, and I was finished.”

The Vision is an android character built by the film’s villain, Ultron, and at some point he realizes that he’s on the wrong side of things and teams up with the Avengers. We’ve yet to see actual footage of the character in any of the two Age of Ultron trailers, but we have multiple shots of him from the film’s concept art.

The Avengers: Infinity War will be split into two parts, and there’s been a lot of speculation as to who will return for the films, but it seems to be a safe bet that we can count on Bettany returning as The Vision.

We look forward to seeing his character for the first time, and we hope Marvel continues to keep him hidden until The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.
