The Honest Trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron points out major problems with Joss Whedon’s latest superhero epic.

The DVD and Blu-ray editions of Avengers: Age of Ultron hit stores on October 2, so it’s the perfect time for the Screen Junkies to treat the world for an Honest Trailer for Marvel’s second Avengers outing.

While a huge box office success for the studio, Age of Ultron fell flat with fans and critics, the former of whom were quick to point out major plot discrepancies and character inconsistencies.

There was plenty to like about the movie, too, and on Hypable’s Hype Podcast review, several of our writers confessed to loving it. But for all of you who took issue with Age of Ultron, this trailer’s for you:

The trailer opens with commending the MCU’s recent smash hits Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, and then frankly states, “You thought there was no way the next Avengers could live up to the hype? You were right.” Especially since the Avengers evidently didn’t assemble on way more pressing occasions.

The Screen Junkies also acknowledge Joss Whedon’s challenge: “[He] is back at the helm, and more beat-down than ever, as he does his best to meet our unrealistic nerd expectations,” the trailer states, pointing out that Age of Ultron is both trying to be a standalone experience, while setting up pretty much all of the MCU’s upcoming movies.

Yeah, maybe he actually did a pretty spectacular job, all things considered.

We get some well-deserved Ultron bashing, who hates the Avengers because “reasons,” and an acknowledgement of the weird side-stories (Natasha/Bruce? Huh?). Hawkeye gets some love, ish, and we finish with a neat little sequence showing just how similar Age of Ultron is to the first Avengers movie.

What do you think? Was the Honest Trailer ribbing justified?
