That’s a wrap on Avatar 2, at least for 2019.

The long-awaited Avatar sequel has finished filming for the year, and they’re giving us a little holiday treat to celebrate.

The official Avatar Twitter account shared the photo along with a caption addressed to Na’vi Nation. The photo shows the “aft well deck section of the Sea Dragon.” It sounds like this vessel, which is a “massive mothership that carries an array of other sea-going craft” will be a feature in the Avatar sequels.

Obviously the Avatar movies are driven by some of the best CGI graphics in the industry, so the Sea Dragon will look much different in the final product. We can’t wait to see it all “decked” out! It’s interesting to see what they’re using for practical sets on these movies, so we’re so glad they shared this photo to mark the last day of 2019 filming for Avatar 2. It follows on the footsteps of another cool set photo from October, which featured James Cameron surrounded by fire and water!

Avatar 2 will be released on December 18, 2021, almost exactly 11 years after James Cameron’s first Avatar movie, which was released on December 17, 2009. It’s currently still in production, filming alongside the third sequel in the series. Hopefully we won’t have to wait as long between the next sequels!
