Arrow debuted a sneak peek at its third season at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring looks at several new cast members as well as returning favorites.

The sneak peek opens with a refresher on season 2, which ended with Oliver transitioning from vigilante to hero after defeating Slade without killing him. He also lost his mother, sister, and company in the process. And in the season finale, Oliver confessed his love for Felicity, though it turned out to be a trap to lure in Slade.

So, with Slade defeated, where does the Arrow go next? The teaser gives us our first looks at Brandon Routh‘s Ray Palmer, a suited up Roy Harper, Oliver in Hong Kong, and more.

“We’re not our mask,” Sara tells Oliver. “And we need people in our lives who don’t wear one.” Cue Oliver asking Felicity out on a date, as per the synopsis.

Though Felicity happily accepts, it predictably won’t be smooth sailing for the pair.

“When you see the premiere and you see how things shake out, you’ll come to a very sympathetic understanding of both of their positions,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says.

In the premiere, titled “The Calm,” Oliver will be struggling with the idea of having everything he wants. “That quest is going to take up his entire year, and hers,” Kreisberg previews.

The season is expected to focus on “what happens when you win and how winning isn’t always as easy as it looks.”

With crime down and the Arrow no longer hunted by the authorities, Oliver is “starting to feel like he has this under control,” Kreisberg says. “And then, of course, as Joss Whedon taught us all, you let your characters have a moment of happiness and then you take it all away from them.”

Arrow season 3 premieres Wednesday, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
