Hot on the heels of the Clueless remake news, Anya Taylor-Joy is set to star in a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma.

Autumn de Wilde will make her feature film directorial debut on her adaptation of Emma for Working Title. Eleanor Catton, winner of the Man Booker Prize, penned the script. Catton’s award winning 2013 novel, The Luminaries, saw her become the youngest author ever to walk away with the prize.

The titular role of Emma will be played by Taylor-Joy. Emma is a young woman who is notorious for meddling in the romantic affairs of others. Her intentions, while good, lead to a comedy of errors in the lives of her friends as she attempts to play matchmaker.

The beloved Austen novel was originally published in 1815, and has seen several adaptations over the years — the most recent coming in 2009 limited series on BBC One, starring Romola Garai, Jonny Lee Miller and Michael Gambon.

Taylor-Joy came to prominence due to her starring roles in The Witch, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. She will reprise her Split role in the upcoming Glass, the latest entry in the Unbreakable continuity.

No release date has been set by Working Title for Emma as of writing. We will be eagerly awaiting the announcement of just who will be playing Mr. Knightly alongside Taylor-Joy’s Emma.
