Sony’s Twisted Metal series has found its star in Anthony Mackie.

According to Deadline, Anthony Mackie has officially signed on to star in Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Production’s upcoming Twisted Metal series.

Based on the popular video game of the same name, the forthcoming live-action adaptation is described as an action comedy.

Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the story follows an outsider who is offered the chance at a better life. The catch? In order to do so, he’ll first have to deliver a mysterious package, all while dodging the danger that lies in the path head.

For his part, Anthony Mackie will take on the role of John Doe— a fast talking, fast driving milkman who longs to find a sense of community.

Behind the camera, the Twisted Metal live-action series is spearheaded by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who previously teamed on Deadpool.

The task of writing the script will fall to Cobra Kai scribe Michael Jonathan Smith.

In a statement announcing the The Falcon and the Winter Solider vet’s involvement with the adaptation, Asad Qizilbash (head of PlayStation Productions) said: “We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.”

Added Glenn Adilman (EVP Comedy Development at Sony TV): “[Mackie] was the only actor who could play a character as complex, funny, and compelling as John Doe. Fortunately for us, he agreed.”

Currently, there’s no word one when we might expect to see Twisted Metal starring Anthony Mackie debut.
