Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story has been renewed for season 4, FX announced today.

American Horror Story: Coven is currently airing on FX and is the show’s third season. A new episode will air tonight at 10 p.m. eastern/pacific.

“Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer,” said FX CEO John Landgraf in a press release marking the announcement. “Time and time again he reinvents the form. What he, co-creator Brad Falchuk and their producers Dante Di Loreto, Tim Minear, Jennifer Salt, James Wong, Brad Buecker, Jessica Sharzer, Douglas Petrie, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, Alexis Martin Woodall and the entire production team and cast responsible for the American Horror Story franchise have done is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year, they create a riveting and brilliant new miniseries. AHS: Coven is the best yet, and I have no doubt that the next installment will be even better.”

American Horror Story season 4 has a 13-episode order and is expected to premiere in fall 2014. The title of the next miniseries was not shared.

FX’s AHS: Coven has nine more episodes to go before reaching its January 29 finale. The network also notes that the series’ ratings have been higher this year than for previous AHS series Murder House and Asylum.

American Horror Story season 4 may be star Jessica Lange’s last. In an interview last month, the lead star of the miniseries said “I’ll do one more season…that’ll be it” but added she’s “very excited” for another round. While this is sad news, FX could always throw some more money at her to tempt Lange to stay on for additional seasons.

Murphy produces the show alongside Brad Falchuk. The duo co-run Glee for Fox.
