Orlando Jones is making a strong statement about being fired from American Gods.

Orlando Jones, who’s known for playing Mr. Nancy on Starz’s American Gods, shocked fans with some upsetting news on Saturday morning. He shared a video to his social media accounts detailing that he was fired from the series.

The video, which you can watch below, makes no secret of the fact that Jones believes the decision was racially motivated. “There will be no more Mr. Nancy,” he said, before regretfully sharing the choice made by the “Connecticut born and Yale educated” showrunner of American Gods.

We’re assuming he’s referring to Charles Eglee, who was hired to replace Jesse Alexander for the show’s third season. Eglee was schooled at Yale, but born in Boston, Massachusetts. This isn’t the first showrunner shakeup that American Gods has endured. The show was taken over in season 2 after its creators, Michael Green and Bryan Fuller, left the series.

Jones confesses that he was fired on September 10. The video states that it happened in September 2018, but he later issued a correction stating that it was 2019. Jones shares that the showrunner believed Mr. Nancy’s “anger gets shit done” attitude was the “wrong message for Black America.” In the video, Jones does not hold back his own anger about the decision.

Jones also shared the video on Instagram, tagging many news outlets with the phrase, “let’s talk.” It’s clear that he’s eager to make his side of this story public. We hope he gets to tell it, in full, soon!

We’re still not sure when American Gods season 3 will premiere, but it is currently in production.
