A quote from the third and final book in Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy was unveiled today and offers an ominous tease.

The Allegiant preview shared by EW takes place during chapter 7 of Allegiant and is said by Tris. The quote reads:

“We don’t know what’s happened out there since they put us in here, or how many generations have lived and died since they did. We could be the last people left.”

Interesting. Where are Tris (and presumably Four) locked up? For how long have they been locked up, if Tris is wondering how many generations have entered and left the world? Is she just delusional from losing track of time? Could it have only been a few weeks that have passed?

Lots of questions, and no answers for another two months. Allegiant hits book store shelves on October 22 and will take place from Tris and Four’s perspectives. Additional quotes that hopefully are as tease-ful as this one will appear in the free eBook The World of Divergent: The Path to Allegiant on September 24.

Before that, catch the first Four short story The Transfer in eBook form on September 3. See the cover now.

Divergent fans are eagerly anticipating the movie adaptation which arrives in theaters on March 21, 2014. Earlier this week we were treated to a detailed behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film and the five factions. On Sunday the film’s first trailer was released at the MTV Video Music Awards.
