A new promo for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 11 peers into Skye’s psyche, and new stills offer a wider perspective.

The preview, which aired during last night’s Academy Awards (you may have heard of them,) takes a different approach to pitching the second half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2. Instead of tantalizing clips of stitched-together footage, the new preview focuses on Skye, alone in a quarantine room.

…talking about how she might be an Inhuman.

The little scene seems idyllic at first, but rapidly disintegrates around Skye – literally.

“There was something inside of me,” Skye says, as the room begins to shake and crack around her. “Something I didn’t even know was there. Something possibly… inhuman.

“And,” Skye continues, as the reality of her glass prison is revealed, “if it gets out, nothing will ever be the same.”

Having scraped our jaws off the floor, we admit that this preview has scrambled us somewhat. This does mark the first time that a cast member of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has said the word “Inhuman” in a canonical capacity – but what else should we take from this dark little scene?

Will Skye really be abandoned by Coulson and the team? Will she be tormented by the chaos inside of her? Will she connect her new abilities to her Inhumanity – and will she seek out understanding from darker forces?

It’s not that we’re saying yes, but it’s starting to look like the answers may be, you know… yes

On a different but not-at-all-lighter note, ABC has recently released still photos from “Aftershocks,” which offer a few hints at what’s to come in the mid-season premiere. Mack is alive and well, but seems less than super thrilled about something, while Skye is in containment, but definitely not the one from the preview. Bobbi is looking super shifty, Bakshi looks remarkably fabulous for a dude who just survived cyanide poisoning, and Coulson is hugging a sad lady.

Through our mountains of used tissues, we must report that the sad lady is Trip’s mom.

Triiiiiip.

“In the mid-season premiere, ‘Aftershocks,'” ABC says, “Coulson’s team must deal with the consequences of their war with Hydra as shocking revelations threaten to tear them apart.” And if that weren’t bad enough, “Hydra makes a dangerous move that may involve a traitor in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s midst.”

It’s getting real, guys.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 11, “Aftershocks,” airs on Tuesday, March 3 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
