Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be joining The Avengers: Age of Ultron, as it’s being reported that he has finally worked out his schedule to play Quicksilver in Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel.

Joss Whedon has been vocal about his excitement over the inclusion of Quicksilver and twin sister Scarlet Witch in The Avengers sequel. He has said in multiple interviews that they are two of his favorite characters, but today The Wrap is reporting that Taylor-Johnson has finalized his deal to play the coveted role.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are the children of X-Men villain Magneto. X-men character rights are owned by 20th Century Fox, but the twins have dual citizenship so to speak. They can be characterized in both the marvel and mutant universes as long as there is no cross referencing in the scripts.

Evan Peters has already been cast as Quicksilver in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Coincidentally, Peters co-starred with Taylor-Johnson in Kick Ass. Actress Elizabeth Olsen has been cast as Quicksilver’s twin sister Scarlet Witch, so we’re very excited to see these two on screen together.

There has been talk of Taylor-Johnson’s possible involvement going back to Comic-Con 2013. Audiences are familiar with his face and are used to him playing a superhero, so he should glide right into the role of Quicksilver in the highly anticipated Avengers sequel.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently filming Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla, a reboot due out in May 2014. Production on Avengers: Age of Ultron has begun and now that Quicksilver and his sister have been cast, we imagine we’ll start to hear about on-set production.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron release date is set for May 1, 2015.
