Jack Donaghy is sticking around 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Universal Television (the TV arm of NBC Universal…so basically NBC) has signed a two-year deal with 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin to create, produce and potentially star in new shows for the network.
NBC came to a similar deal with Tina Fey just a few months ago, though her deal was for a total of four years. The news is a little surprising in that Baldwin has hinted at taking an extended break from show business in the past, and potentially even running for public office. If anything, the news just confirms his repeated stated love for 30 Rock and NBC.
With Fey and Baldwin both developing new material for NBC post-30 Rock, the doors are officially open for an extended friendly competition between the two, hopefully culminating in a rap battle on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Baldwin also recently revealed that 30 Rock has started production on its series finale, to be aired January 31, via his Twitter account.
