Oh hai there. Today marks the tenth anniversary of The Room, the world’s greatest-worst movie ever made, and, to celebrate this momentous occasion, we’re counting down the 7 best quotes.

Named by Entertainment Weekly as “the Citizen Kane of bad movies,” Tommy Wiseau’s The Room is a can’t-miss cult classic whose popularity has skyrocketed in the last few years, thanks in part to audience participation screenings on college campuses. For those of you who are not familiar with this masterpiece, here’s a quick synopsis from IMDb:

A happy-go-lucky banker sees his world fall apart when his friends begin to betray him one-by-one.

Even though that summary sounds pretty concise, the movie itself makes little sense. Some plot lines are never explained or resolved, one character abruptly leaves the film and then is replaced by another who is never introduced, the camera goes in and out of focus frequently… The list of flaws go on and on. Yet, The Room is so bad that it’s good. You just have to see it to believe it.

It was difficult to just pick a few lines out of this movie, but we managed it. So, without further ado, check out our list of the 7 best quotes from The Room.

‘I did not hit her. It’s not true. It’s bullshit. I did not hit her. I did not. Oh, hai Mark.’

We love this line mostly because of the way he delivers it. It’s one hell of a monologue. Also, who knew that “not” could ever sound like “nahhht”?

‘Anything for my princess.’

In all other cases, we’d think that a line like this one would be cute and endearing. However, coming out of Tommy Wiseau’s mouth, it’s a bit creepy. Especially with his trademark laugh.

‘Johnny’s my best friend.’

Johnny and Mark are best friends. The movie tells us so. Repeatedly. Through multiple characters. But it’s really difficult to know for sure.

‘Anyway, how’s your sex life?’

Because there’s no better way to change the topic of conversation. Who switches from talking about work to talking about sex lives without any topics in between?

‘Leave your stupid comments in your pocket.’

If it helps, we’re not even sure what that means. But you shouldn’t spend too much time thinking about it. After all, Tommy Wiseau didn’t.

‘Oh, hi Johnny. I didn’t know it was you.’

Because the lady wasn’t staring straight at him as he walked into the flower shop. Honestly though, this whole scene is so ridiculous. Especially the awkward speed in which the characters deliver their lines.

‘I got the results of the test back. I definitely have breast cancer.’

You would think that sharing news like this would be more emotional and better-timed. But this is The Room. Dramatic topics are brought up just long enough to evoke a response, and then never discussed again.

‘You are tearing me apart, Lisa!’

This is the quote of The Room. Even some people who have never seen the movie know this infamous line. Everything about this line (the delivery, the context, etc.) is just perfect.

So there you have it. Those are our favorite quotes from The Room. If you haven’t seen or even heard of The Room before, you should definitely give it a chance. It’s one of those movies where practically every line is quotable. Check out the trailer below:
