A few weeks ago we were hit by The Hunger Games trailer. It caught many of fans’ attention, but did it catch the attention of people who haven’t read the books?
Us fans will definitely see the movie and maybe buy a few posters or some other merchandise. But what about people who aren’t fans – were they interested in the trailer?
This was the first time that the fans got to see the characters in action and most were intrigued. I decided to show some of my friends (who haven’t read the book) the trailer. Their first impression was that they didn’t get it, they didn’t understand the world of Panem or the Hunger Games.
I tried to tell them about the whole series and how everything worked out without spoiling anything, but they didn’t seem interested. I tried to persuade them to read the book, but they didn’t want to.
Sure, this may change for other people, they may be intrigued in the world of Panem and how the Hunger Games work, but will it get people who haven’t read the books interested? Harry Potter was able to capture fans’ attention after a few movies, and also with Twilight both of the fandoms grew and grew as more movies came along. But with The Hunger Games only having three movies (or four depending if they are splitting the last one into two parts), will it catch the heart of non-book readers the way the other fandoms have?
Do you have any ideas of how this is going to work out? If so leave a message in the comments. I would enjoy reading them and seeing other people’s opinions.
