With The Vampire Diaries returning in just a little under a month, we finally have our first trailer for season 7, and it looks like death is back in Mystic Falls. Again.
For The Vampire Diaries, death is no stranger to the folks in Mystic Falls. It comes every season in huge quantities, and so it should come to no surprise that this year there will be an overabundance of it thanks to the Heretics unleashed by Kai and his new friend Lily Salvatore.
It seems that a lot has changed, and now our favorite little supernatural town has been completely overrun by those magic-wielding vampires. Apparently Stefan and Damon made a deal to stay out of their way, but we don’t see that happening as they planned. “We don’t mess with them, they don’t mess with us,” Stefan explains. Right.
It’s clear that Damon doesn’t agree with this plan, and he and Bonnie want to stop the new bad guys from taking over the town.
Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries will explore what happens to Mystic Falls after Lily and her Heretics take over the town, leading to the future timeline we saw at the end of season 6 last year. For those of you who think all season 7 will be is a futuristic dystopian of the vampire drama, you need not worry. This season will focus mostly on the present day of the series, while fast forwarding occasionally to see more of the damage these Heretics do.
This season definitely feels different without Elena Gilbert, and it’ll be interesting to see how the show fares with the drastic change.
Additionally, the CW have released the first stills from the premiere to whet our appetites before the show returns on October 8.
