After Damon finally escaped his Hell, we realize that the saying “all Hell breaks loose” still very much applies for the Salvatore brothers.
Damon has finally been saved from his own personal Hell inside of the phoenix stone, but that doesn’t mean that he’s alright. After being saved, it’s all about making sure he can survive the real world. Not only that, but Stefan will have to make sure his own personal Hell hasn’t taken a toll on him as well.
It’s going to be tough for Damon to check back in to the real world after having just gone through re-living his worst nightmare over, and over, and over. And although he thinks everything is fine, it’s quite apparent that things will most definitely not be. He’ll be haunted by the ghosts of his pasts, but it’s alright, because Stefan will be there for him.
That’s not to say that Stefan won’t have his own problems! A vampire doesn’t come out of the phoenix stone unscathed, and Stefan is no exception, no matter how easy it was for him to “let go.” The choices he made while in the stone will have a long term effect on his life and his relationship with Damon, and we’re excited to see how the two move forward after having been punished in such a way.
And let’s not forget that while these brothers have to heal from their punishment, they still have to deal with the very real threat that is Julian and his gang of heretic, magic-wielding vampires. Before anything can be done to ensure Elena has a Mystic Falls to return to, Stefan and Damon are going to need to figure out a way to rid their home of a very real threat — and that will not be easy.
