The Flash‘s Candice Patton teases what’s next for Iris, moving into the final episodes of the season.
At the end of The Flash season 1, episode 20, “The Trap,” Iris realized that the identity of the Flash is, in fact, her best friend, Barry Allen. With the relationship between the two already complicated by Barry’s feelings for Iris, this revelation will undoubtedly intensify things even more.
Candice Patton previews what we can expect now that Iris is in on the big secret at long last.
“Iris is shocked,” she says of the reveal. “It’s a huge revelation that her best friend has been keeping such a huge secret from her for so long. It comes out of nowhere that he’s The Flash, and she’s been meeting with him, and he’s been keeping this secret for a very, very long time.”
As for the confrontation that will occur now that Iris knows the truth, Patton previews, “For the first time, we’re going to see a side of Iris that we’ve never seen — seeing her angry and unleashing her emotions toward Barry, her father and everyone who has been keeping this huge secret from her.”

She adds, “There’s a lot of hurt and anger in Iris” in The Flash season 1, episode 21, “Grodd Lives.” And that anger comes from “a person not trusting you enough to tell you the truth, and trying to keep you safe rather than believing that you could help keep your own self safe.”
Despite her anger, though, Iris “immediately gets involved” at S.T.A.R. Labs. “Now that she’s allowed access into S.T.A.R. Labs and she knows who The Flash is, she immediately uses her skills to help the team. That’s all Iris has ever wanted to do, to be a part of helping her city.
“Now that she knows who The Flash is and that she can help him, she’s more than willing to use whatever resources she has to be a part of the team. That’s something I’m really excited about, to see Iris stepping into using her skills as a reporter to help this team that’s already existed for so long.”
However, there won’t be a lot of time for Iris to dwell on this revelation, as the Reverse Flash kidnapped her boyfriend, Eddie, due to their family connection. In this episode, Patton says, “The main priority for Iris, and for the entire team, is to keep Eddie safe, find him and save him from Reverse Flash.”

Discovering the connection between Eddie and the Reverse Flash, Eobard, will also throw Iris for a loop. “She’s extremely shocked that it’s a possibility and what that means for Eddie in her life. Because they could be possibly related, does that mean there’s something evil in him as well?”
As for the upcoming season finale, titled “Fast Enough,” Patton calls it “epic.” She adds, “[W]e would never leave the season without it being bigger than [episode] 15, bigger than [episode] 20. It’s going to be bigger than both of those.”
The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
