This week, we learned Cameron Diaz would take on an iconic musical, Jamie Foxx would reunite with Leonardo DiCaprio, and Julianne Moore might be headed for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Here are a few more announcements you may have missed.
Ryan Reynolds
Reynolds will join Mississippi Grind, a tale about a gambler, down on his luck, who teams up with a young gambling addict to try and turn things around. Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond the Pines) is also attached to the project. Jake Gyllenhaal was formerly attached, but it appears Reynolds has replaced the actor.
The movie comes from writer director team, Ana Boden and Ryan Fleck who brought us Half Nelson and It’s Kind of a Funny Story. Mississippi Grind is set to begin filming in early 2014.
Mark Wahlberg
Walberg is re-teaming with director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) for American Desperado, an adaptation of the book of the same name.
The book, written by journalist Evan Wright and career criminal Jon Roberts, chronicles Roberts’ journey from mafia soldier to a secret CIA asset. The screen adaptation is being penned by William Monahan (The Departed).
Paramount is look to begin production in early 2014, around the same time Berg and Wahlberg’s recently completed Lone Survivor hits theaters.
Keira Knightley
Knightley is headed for 1920s New York in Fox Searchlight’s adaptation of The Other Typist by Susanne Rindell.
The film follows conservative NYPD typist Rose (Knightley) as she is brought out of her shell by a new, glamorous clerk named Odalie. Things take a turn when Rose becomes a bit obsessive.
Knightley is also set to produce the flick which does not yet have a director attached.
Elizabeth Banks
Banks signed on the the Beach Boys biopic Love & Mercy. She will play the love interest and eventual wife of group founder Brian Wilson.
The cast includes Paul Dano and Paul Giamatti as well as John Cusack. Dano and Cusack play younger and older versions of Wilson, respectively. The film is being directed by Bill Polahd, executive producer of Brokeback Mountain.
Christopher Plummer
Plummer will replace Michael Caine in the upcoming Imagine starring Al Pacino.
Pacino plays a hard-partying, aging musician who stumbles upon a letter from a young John Lennon. Plummer will step in to play Pacino’s character’s manager. Caine was forced to step away due to scheduling conflicts.
The film is being written and directed by Crazy, Stupid, Love writer Dan Fogelman.
