Star Trek 3 director Justin Lin has released the first image from the film, confirming that the film’s title will be Star Trek: Beyond.
The third Star Trek film has been missing an official title, and in April a Star Trek fan site, Trek Movie, reported that the new title for the film would be Star Trek Beyond. What made us believe in the report a bit more was that the name had been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which is normally what happens as the film starts production.
Now, there’s no more speculation, as director Justin Lin has released the first image from the third Star Trek film, and announced that the title will officially be: Star Trek: Beyond. Check out Lin’s Tweet below, which gives us our first image of Star Trek: Beyond.

The title is a great way to get the Star Trek crew away from Earth, as Star Trek Into Darkness ended with the crew of the Starship Enterprise leaving for a long journey, and Simon Pegg has said that they plan on exploring the fact that they won’t really be doing much, if anything at all, on Earth.
We’re thinking the name works well, especially considering it’s not incredibly long compared to every other movie title that seems to be used in the last few years.
Paramount has set Star Trek 3’s release date for July 8, 2016. The title may still be a placeholder, but we look forward to finding out if Star Trek Beyond will be the official title in the next few weeks.
