Last night, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted SNL with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The comedy duo reprised a couple of familiar characters including their spot-on impressions of Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton!
The cold open for the final episode of the year featured a spoof of the latest Republican Presidential debate. The sketch featured Darrell Hammond doing his best Donald Trump impersonation as well as Jay Pharoah’s hilarious Ben Carson impression.
In the opening monologue, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler had fun singing Christmas songs. Amy was more festive while Tina was more religious. It was a fun way to kick start the highly-anticipated episode.
In the first sketch of the night, Tina and Amy reprised their monumentally classic roles as Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton. In the sketch, Hillary from 2008 visits Hillary in 2015. The pair is interrupted by Sarah Palin and it’s expectedly epic!
The duo again teamed up to host a game show where contestants would be introduced to their future second wives. The twist of who the second wives would be was not only hilarious to those of us at home watching but also to the audience who groaned through their laughs.
Maya Rudolph, who is also in the new movie Sisters that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler star in, made a cameo appearance later in the episode, first as a crazy Christmas singer named Lola.
Tina and Amy then spoofed Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” video with their own version called “Tina and Amy’s Dope Squad,” which included people like their nannies and their gynecologists. The sketch features an amazing rap by Aidy Bryant and a cameo by Amy Schumer.
Lastly, Maya Rudolph returned to reprise her role on Bronx Beat, the recurring sketch from when she and Amy were SNL cast members. As it turns out, this is one of the funnier versions of this sketch that they have done.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed two songs as well as the finale number with Paul McCartney. Check out the incredible performances below.
SNL will return January 16 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Girls star Adam Driver as host. No word yet on the musical guest.
