Sherlock finally has a return date, a title, and an exciting announcement for viewers in the United Kingdom and the United States!
Mark your calendars, the Sherlock special titled, “The Abominable Bride,” will air Friday, January 1. Fans in the U.K. and the U.S., for the first time, can watch the special on the day. The broadcast will also be available simultaneously online at PBS.
A new trailer accompanied the news today which included a few extra shots and the title at the end.
The announcements arrived during the Sherlock London Comic Con where Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue, and Amanda Abbington gathered to answer the audiences burning questions about the special and the highly anticipated season 4.
In addition to the trailer, title, and air date, Moffat teased that he was currently working on season 4 under the table. Filming for the next installment is tentatively scheduled for spring 2016.
A few HQ stills were also made available following the panel including a behind the scenes look at Benedict Cumberbatch filming a scene, Sherlock playing the violin, and a new promotional image of Sherlock and John Watson.
Fans had some interesting questions for the cast and creative team, such as, will Irene Adler be back? Mark Gatiss replied that the story would have to be “really good” in order to work her back into the series. Speaking of Gatiss, remember when Mycroft suffered through a performance of Les Misérables with his parents at the end of the season 3 premiere? That scene was filmed!

What about the chance of another special? Chances are this is the last time fans will see Sherlock in the Victorian era. Shooting the special was a “nightmare” and Amanda Abbington (Mary Morstan) admitted that the corsets were “horrible.”
We are certainly ready for some more Sherlock in our lives! Is it January yet?
Tune into the Sherlock special, “The Abominable Bride,” Friday, January 1, 2016 on BBC One in the U.K. and on PBS in the US at 9:00 p.m.
