Scream season 1, episode 10, “Revelations,” just finished airing, and we finally know who the true killer is.
The Scream finale opens up on Emma frantically trying to track down her friends as the killer feeds video footage at the dance of the sheriff tied to a tree. Emma and Noah escape in order to get to his “serious gear” and find Hud.
Pulling a clue from the mouth of the latest victim, Maggie and Emma realize what the killer wants — for them to go back to where Brandon hid gifts for Maggie in the tree between their houses.
In an adorable scene between Brooke and Audrey, the two bond over their loneliness. Brooke is lamenting Jake’s idiocy, while Audrey is disappointed in Emma’s lack of faith in her. She strongly believes Kieran could be the killer, and yet Emma refuses to consider it. “Chicks before dicks?” Audrey asks. “Let’s not get crazy,” Brooke responds.
This is quickly followed up by one of the most gruesome scenes of the series. As Maggie and Emma find Sheriff Hudson, everything momentarily feels like it will work out for the best. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. When Maggie unties Clark from the tree, his guts spill out into her hands, ending his life and putting the killer one step ahead of them again.
Noah then realizes the killer is at Brooke’s party — a great throwback to the original series — and he and Emma drive over there, leaving the cops behind, as per the killer’s instructions. Emma is the survivor girl and Noah is the smart-guy-destined-to-die. Emma, however, isn’t going to let that happen. She’s changing the ending of this story.
After Jake admits he may have been spying on Brooke — for mostly noble reasons — his girl-of-the-night finds a dead body in the bathroom and the party-goers hastily leave the suddenly deadly celebration. Audrey, however, doesn’t fare so well, as she is attacked by the killer.
Brooke emerges from the wine cellar with more booze in hand, only to find all of her guests have vacated the premises. She hides inside the house just as Mr. Branson shows up, begging to come inside. But Brooke isn’t hearing any of it. She locks him out, and all the lights outside cut out. When she flips them back on, the masked man is standing right at her door.
Brooke escapes from the killer, but stupidly locks herself in a freezer in order to hide. That might’ve been a good idea if the killer wasn’t so smart. He locks her up, tips her over, and starts slicing and dicing. She’s far from dead when he turns the freezer on and leaves the room.
Emma and Noah finally make it to Brooke’s house, only to immediately run into Kieran. Is he the killer? It doesn’t seem so, as when he learns about his father, he breaks down and hands Emma the gun to prove his innocence. The group go on the hunt, ready to end this once and for all.
“I will NOT be right back,” Noah mutters as the trio splits up, hoping to ensure his own survival. He finds Audrey’s bag, while Emma and Kieran find Jake and then rescue Brooke. The group convenes and counts their blessings, but then Emma gets a phone call (“What is this, 1996?“) from the killer telling her he’s taken Maggie. She has to go alone, or others will die.
This is the final showdown.
The killer shows up and pulls the mask from her face. We were right the whole time. Piper reveals herself as the killer, spilling her entire story for Emma and Maggie to hear. Piper gets some good shots in, but in the end it’s not enough. Piper stands over Emma, saying, “I have one more surprise for you before I open you up. And you’ll never see it coming.”
Then Audrey shoots her. “Bitch talks too much,” she says — you should probably remember this for later — and though Piper emerges from the water in true horror film fashion, Emma puts one right between her eyes. “They always come back,” she says.
The survivors are banged up, but they’ll be okay…eventually. It won’t be easy to get over the bloodbath, but at least it’s over.
Except it’s totally not. Noah finishes out Piper’s podcast while we see Audrey digging through a lock box, pulling out old letters from Piper. With a calm facade, she burns them all, and we know now who was hiding under that mask when Piper was attacked earlier in the season.
Scream season 2 will air in 2016.
