Saoirse Ronan is the latest star to join Wes Anderson’s upcoming feature The Grand Budapest Hotel, as she’s set to play the female lead in the film alongside a host of other talented actors.
Back in October, we reported that Ralph Fiennes had taken over for Johnny Depp in the film, which also stars the likes of Bill Murray, Jude Law, and Jason Schwartzman, with Willem Dafoe, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Angela Lansbury and Owen Wilson also rumored for roles the film.
Variety first reported the news, noting that Anderson has said the film takes place 85 years ago in a Hungarian hotel, while the film is “partly inspired by the plays Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch.” Ronan’s exact role isn’t yet known, although the report makes clear the part is that of the female lead.
Back in our interview with Anderson in June, he alluded to the project, saying he was going to shoot his next film in Europe. It now appears as if the film is all coming together, as Anderson has amassed a typically talented cast with both new and old faces.
Filming on the project is currently scheduled to commence early next year in Germany, and Anderson will produce the film with his Moonrise Kingdom collaborators Scott Rudin and Steven Rales. Exact plot details have not yet been disclosed, as Anderson is keeping those under pretty tight wraps, although with the talent involved details aren’t really necessary to get us interested.
In addition to an Oscar-nominated turn in Atonement and roles in Joe Wright’s Hanna and Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, Ronan is set to headline the major tent-pole adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host next spring, shortly after production on The Grand Budapest Hotel should begin.
