We’re more than halfway through The Following season 3, and it’s time to reassess: Do you trust Gwen? Or does she probably have another agenda?
She hasn’t made any sort of move against Ryan in the last nine episodes to make us truly believe she has it out for him, but it’s hard to just accept that, given Ryan’s abysmal track record, he truly has found a woman with no strings to the serial killers in his life. Considering what we’ve gone through with betrayals in the last two seasons, it’s not surprising that we’re more than a little skeptical, even now.
We already discussed our reservations about Gwen earlier this season, but now that we’ve made it through episode 9 without her turning on him, we can’t help but wonder if our first impression may not have been the right one.
It is time to reassess our initial impressions. Gwen certainly hasn’t seemed to have done much to show that she is anything but super loyal to Mr. Ryan Hardy, but how long is long enough to prove you’re not going to betray us, the fans, and go against our favorite agent?
We recently saw that Zuleikha Robinson, who portrays Gwen in the series, has begun to trust that her character is there for the right reasons, but that doesn’t mean we all have to.
This week’s episode of The Following ended with Gwen discovering that she’s pregnant, and bursting into tears over it. Due to the fact that she was not in the presence of any other characters, it’s pretty safe to believe that this is as truthful a reaction as we will ever get from her. Her emotional response to the test makes us think that maybe, just maybe, Gwen is in this relationship for all the right reasons. We definitely hope so, as Ryan Hardy deserves a little happiness more than pretty much everyone.
The Following season 3, episode 10, “Evermore,” airs this Monday night at 9 p.m. on FOX. Check out the promo and make sure to tune in and see if Joe Carroll figures out a way out of his execution.
