It’s a day that ends in the letter “y,” so J.K. Rowling is on Twitter adding to Wizarding World canon.
In a batch of tweets on Wednesday evening, Rowling started answering questions about which Ilvermorny houses each of several Fantastic Beasts characters are in, whether they’re a No-Maj or not. As far as we know, this is the first time this information has been made available.
What Ilvermorny houses are Seraphina, Queenie, Tina, and Jacob (who’s not a Wizard but whatever) in? Here are the answers:
MACUSA President Seraphina Picquery: Horned Serpent

Three of those four characters actually did attend Ilvermorny, so we wouldn’t be surprised if a Fantastic Beasts book publishes these answers in the years ahead.
Sadly she did not say which Ilvermorny house Newt (a Hufflepuff) would be in. Maybe a Thunderbird? He certainly earned that title after freeing a Thunderbird in Beasts.
Pottermore launched an Ilvermorny sorting quiz earlier this year for us Muggles to take (this writer is a Thunderbird!). Unfortunately, it didn’t provide too much info about the individual houses, but we’re hopeful that the website will one day share more.
Fun fact: The Fantastic Beasts movie shot a scene in which Tina and Queenie sing the Ilvermorny school song for Jacob and Newt (which is followed by Jacob proclaiming “I wanna be a wizard!”) while they’re all in the suitcase, but it was removed from the final cut of the movie. We expect it to make its debut on the DVD/Blu-ray in 2017.
Do you agree with J.K. Rowling’s Ilvermorny house sortings?
