Sea of Monsters artists Alfonso De La Torre and Joshua Min have released some concept art for various monsters in the Percy Jackson universe.
First up is the art from Alfonso De La Torre. From his official Facebook page (via CBM), he says, “In this project I worked on everything from concept matte painting, environment design, creature character design, designing the way the bull moves and refining and partially designing the bull’s look, special effects, even animating FXs, and helping out in the bulk of what you see on screen.”
De La Torre goes on to say, “This was a great experience for me and probably one of the toughest movies I’ve ever worked on, and it was a great honor for me being a part of the production.”
Below you can see the various concept sketches for creatures like Polyphemus the cyclops, the hippocampus, Charybdis, and even some cyclops teenagers. In terms of Polyphemus, you can see his more monster-like rendition, which is then followed up by a more human looking cyclops, which is what the production team was looking for.

You can see the final design for Polyphemus in the clip that shows Grover in a wedding dress. Rainbow the hippocampus is featured in another clip with Tyson as he, Annabeth, and Percy call on Poseidon to help them get to another ship out at sea.
Joshua Min has also uploaded a few of his concept sketches via his blog.
Min’s artwork includes sketches for the inside of the Colchis Bull, as well as his Kronos design.
