Following this morning’s 85th annual Academy Awards announcement, the first commercial for the Oscars ceremony was unveiled.

In it, host Seth MacFarlane quips that he’s actually not Seth MacFarlane. “I’m Daniel Day-Lewis. I’m just that good.” It’s a reference to Day-Lewis’ role, and nominations, as Lincoln.

The quick, 20-second promo is presumably the first of many amusing commercials from MacFarlane, who is a relative unknown to most average entertainment consumers. Those who tune into the Oscars next month will largely be confused as to who MacFarlane is at first. His face is never seen on screens because he’s only been involved in animated work like his creations Family Guy and the 2012 film Ted.

We expect his opening monologue during the Academy Awards will try to reach out to the people who don’t know him. During today’s nominations event, MacFarlane read the nominees alongside Emma Stone. The pair had playful banter and took a few good swings at Hollywood and celebrities who suck up to their superiors.

The Oscars will be broadcast live on ABC Sunday, February 24. See the Academy Award nominees.

Do you think MacFarlane has the chops to helm the Academy Awards?
