Act of Valor director Scott Waugh is in talks with DreamWorks to direct a big screen version of the popular video game Need for Speed.
Variety’s Jeff Sneider reports:
Studio plans to develop the project as a potential tentpole in the vein of Universal’s successful “Fast and Furious” franchise.
Siblings George and John Gatins developed the project together, and George Gatins wrote the script. John Gatins will produce with EA.
The report also notes that EA recently released a more plot-driven installment with Need for Speed: The Run, although it is not clear whether the film version will have much (if any) similarity between the video game, other than the $100 million franchise name.
Are you happy we may be seeing a Need for Speed movie? What do you think of Scott Waugh’s involvement?
