In an excerpt from the current issue of Empire, Man Of Steel actor Henry Cavill discusses how ‘dark’ the next Superman film will be, and the film’s writer David Goyer explains that there will be more than enough action to please die-hard fans.
When word started to come out that Man of Steel was going to be a dark film somewhat grounded in reality, similar to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, fans of the original Superman material began to worry. Considering Superman’s superhuman abilities, and his origins as an alien from Krypton – it could be a difficult task attempting to ground such unrealistic circumstances. Actor Henry Cavill quickly came to the rescue, reassuring fans.
“It’s not a dark movie by any means. Past representations of the character have been quite light… This is a more realistic view of the character, while still maintaining the very unrealistic, or potentially unrealistic features of an alien with superpowers.”
This would seem to alleviate any worries that the film won’t be so realistic as to lose the surreal aspects of the Superman franchise, and we look forward to seeing where director Zack Snyder goes with the original source material. We definitely felt like the official Man of Steel trailer was inspiring to say the least.
Man of Steel’s writer David Goyer added on to Cavill’s explanation and said that fans shouldn’t worry, that Man of Steel will have more action than any of director Christopher Nolan’s Batman films (who is also producing Man of Steel). Goyer was quoted saying: “There is more action in Man of Steel than any of the Dark Knight Films.”
In other Man of Steel news, it’s been reported recently that the Justice League film and the possibility of it being made is entirely dependent upon the financial success of Man of Steel. Variety reported that the big-wigs at Warner Bros. are waiting to see how Man Of Steel performs “before moving further ahead on Justice League,” mostly due to the fact that Superman is such an integral part of the Justice League.
It’s been rumored that a Justice League film was already in pre-production and that it was headed to theaters in 2015, but with these new reports, it would appear that there’s no work being done on the film until the box office numbers are released for Man of Steel.
So, if you’re a DC comic fan and you hope to see a Justice League film in the next few years, it may be a wise investment to catch Man of Steel in IMAX 3D multiple times when it hits theaters June 14, 2013.
