Last month we had reported on documentarian James Runcie’s new television special with J.K. Rowling about The Casual Vacancy. The 30-minute interview is available online and we thought we’d share it with you.
Runcie had created the fantastic documentary J.K. Rowling: A Year in the Life which chronicled the completion and release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It had offered a great behind-the-scenes look at the final moments Rowling spent writing the tome in a hotel room.
What’s interesting about this new special between Runcie and Rowling is that it uses many clips of the author reading from her adult novel. Her reading is aided by a slew of b-roll shots around England which give great visuals to her reading. It’s a nice way to digest different parts of the book whether or not you’ve read the story. Obviously, it’s spoiler free.
Right at the start of the program Rowling reads a part of The Casual Vacancy which includes an F-bomb. Hearing such a vulgar word come from our Queen’s mouth is a bit shocking at first.
Earlier this month Rowling had appeared in New York City to host a live reading, Q&A, and signing with her American fans. Do check out our list of the ten best quotes she had made during the event.
Thanks to Rhiannon for the tip!
