EW has some intriguing new information about Star Wars: The Force Awakens including an interview with J.J. Abrams, and new images!
“Who is Luke Skywalker?”
This was the question that got J.J. Abrams to agree to direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens, after having already rebooted the Star Trek series.
This week’s Entertainment Weekly issue is all about fall movies, which includes December’s new Star Wars installment. Their lengthy interview with Abrams is well worth a read, but we are particularly intrigued by the suggestion that Luke (played by Mark Hamill, who will be reprising his role in Episode VII) might play a bigger role than we initially assumed.

Abrams also talks about how much of a hand he really had in shaping the story of The Force Awakens.
“[They] had just been hypothesizing and throwing out a bunch of what-ifs, but there was no story in place,” he tells EW. “It was, without doubt, a formidable assignment. There were so many options and so many paths that could be taken.”
So… could Luke, the unchallenged Good Guy of the galaxy far far away, possibly go dark side?
“George [Lucas] spoke often about that tension in everybody between what’s good and bad,” teases producer Kathleen Kennedy. “He always felt that it was easier to be bad than good. I’m not sure all people would agree, but I think that that’s always an interesting conflict to explore. So that’s a big part of the themes inside of Episode VII.”
Adds Abrams, “If all were rosy 30-some years post-Jedi, we would be hard-pressed to find an interesting story to tell.”

We’re particularly intrigued by the very evil-looking Domhnall Gleeson!
