The first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered earlier today! Many Hypable staff members had similar reactions, but some had differing opinions.
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer seemed to have gotten most of Hypable’s staff excited for its premiere in December 2015. We patiently (not really) await the full trailer.
See our reactions below!

Level of Star Wars fandom: 0. Never seen a Star Wars movie!
Immediate impressions: Fun. Exciting. A beautiful throwback to the originals (or at least my impression of them.) Opening the trailer with a live action shot in the desert was a smart, practical touch!
Favorite moment: The R2D2-type thingy rolling through the desert. He’s Star Wars Dancing Groot.
Post-trailer level of psychitude: 7. I’m excited but I’ll be even MORE excited once I know what I’m looking at!

Level of Star Wars fandom: 8. I’ve seen the original trilogy more times than I’ve cut my hair. I’ve sat through the prequel trilogy exactly twice. I’ve never been to a Star Wars convention but I’m positive that I can beat George Lucas in a game of Star Wars trivial pursuit.
Immediate impressions: Huh. Desert. Tattooine. Nice. Okay. Oh! Some new characters! Nice! Wow! A soccer ball droid! That’s both new AND fun! Maybe a little glib, but – OH MAN it’s a lightsaber hilt! Wow, I wonder if there’s anything else major they change – THE MILLENNIUM FALCON.
Favorite moment: OH MY GOD THE MILLENNIUM FALCON JUST DID A BARREL ROLL.
Post trailer level of psychitude: 10. I was not expecting to be this thrilled by the trailer. I wasn’t sure whether or not to trust Disney with a new Star Wars film (I already trust J.J. Abrams), but everything in this trailer reminds me of the trilogy that I loved. And I started crying when the Millennium Falcon came on screen. Like legit crying. How can I survive until next Christmas?!

Level of Star Wars fandom: 5. My one-time obsession lapsed into apathy a few years ago.
Immediate impressions: Oooh. I like the action, and that we’re being tossed in with new characters amid the familiar imagery. It gives me hope that we can get a really compelling new story alongside callbacks to the original trilogy.
Favorite moment: Daisy Ridley driving that metal thing! I don’t know what it means, but I’m so excited to see where Star Wars will take its new female leads.
Post-trailer level of psychitude: 8. I can feel my love of this franchise reawakening… and I can’t wait to see more!

Level of Star Wars fandom: 7. I grew up absolutely loving the original trilogy and my Han Solo obsession hasn’t waned since the age of 11. However, episodes I, II & III left a bad taste in my mouth and I’ve been a bit mad at George Lucas ever since.
Immediate impressions: That voice-over is creepy. It’s not quite on a Darth Vader level but still sets a haunting tone. I spot a cute boy! And a soccer ball? It’s already an action-packed trailer and they’re really upping the weaponry with that sword-like light saber. The music gave me chills and the sight of the Millennium Falcon literally made me scream! In my head it only could mean that Han Solo is inside. Wow, that was sort of perfect.
Favorite moment: That soccer ball droid! Maybe not the most exciting part of the teaser but made me chuckle. It reminded me just how much I love J.J. Abrams’s humor and gave me hope that this is going to work.
Post-trailer level of psychitude: 9. The first teaser trailer was everything I could have hoped for but I still have that tiny amount of doubt in the back of my mind that it’s going to flop.

Level of Star Wars fandom: 6. I’ve dressed up as numerous Star Wars characters for Halloween since I was a kid. My family would make a big thing of it. Like most fans, I’ve loved, lived and breathed the original trilogy countless times. But unlike most fans, I’ve learned to accept the prequel trilogy for what it is. I can take the bad with the good (semi-related: same goes for Prisoner of Azkaban).
Immediate impressions: Who’s on that voice-over?! A freaking new driod. Tattooine! Stormtroopers?? X-Wings, TIE fighters. Is that a new Sith — with a badass lightsaber? JOHN WILLIAMS’ SCORE AND THE MILLENNIUM FALCON! (I. Can’t. Breathe.)
Favorite moment: I can’t choose between the Millennium Falcon and John Williams’ brilliant score.
Post-trailer level of psych-itude: 9. I want to say 10 so badly but I admit I’m terrified to fall in love before the full trailer releases! I can honestly say the Millennium Falcon is what brought tears to my eyes, even after seeing the trailer countless times. John Williams’ score may have also been the reasoning behind those tears. How are the Stormtroopers even still alive? Will that Sith be the movie’s main antagonist? I have SO many questions. Allow me to go and cry again…

Level of Star Wars fandom: 0. Never seen a movie.
Immediate impressions: Oooh…. holy moly (I used a different word when I watched it). I got chills when the musical theme came in at the end because, even as a complete noob when it comes to the series, those chords are iconic in the pop cultural landscape of the past few decades.
Favorite moment: Let me go back and rewatch it… OK! My favorite moment is that cut to the Millennium Falcon (I’ve never seen the movies before but I’m not an idiot).
Post-trailer level of psychitude: 7. As someone who has jumped on board with that other J.J. Abrams series reboot, I’d say I’m at a “I’ll see it opening weekend” level of excitement. The question is: do I watch all the older films before I see it? (Would actually seriously like some input on that.)

Level of Star Wars fandom: 4. Seen the originals, not the prequels.
Immediate impressions: Oh, whoa, this looks just like the original ones! I don’t know what I was expecting, but the vibe felt like it stuck to the original movies. I only saw them once, but this trailer really reminded me of them and that’s gotta be a good thing, right? I really enjoyed the first few films and this trailer makes me think I’m going to enjoy this one as well.
Favorite moment: This is a tie between the Stormtroopers all banded together and in battle mode and the little rolling robot thing. The Stormtroopers because they’re amazing and badass looking, and the robot because it is SO adorable!
Post-trailer level of psychitude: 7. I’m definitely excited to see how this movie plays out, and this trailer just made me even more excited. While I’m not an absolute die-hard fan like some other Hypable staff and readers, I definitely think this movie is going to be HUGE and I’m so stoked.
