While Hollywood’s highest-paid actor shouldn’t come as a shock, you might be surprised to learn who didn’t make this year’s top 10.

Forbes has released their annual list of the top 10 highest paid actors. This list is Forbes’ estimate of each actor’s earnings from June 2012 to June 2013 based on information they’ve gathered from reliable sources.

10. Liam Neeson: $32 million

Quite a bit of Liam Neeson’s 2013 earnings came from Taken 2, where he reportedly earned $15 million, a salary at which he finally listened to the studio’s pleas to have a sequel. Though he didn’t appear in The Dark Knight Rises for very long, he was probably able to get quite a bit of money for his important cameo. Neeson likely was also paid well for his upcoming role in Anchorman: The Legend Continues. The star-studded comedy hits theaters this December 20.

9. Denzel Washington: $33 million

Denzel Washington hasn’t had that busy of a year, having only made two movies, but he must have been paid well for them. Earlier this year, Washington’s starring role in Flight got him an Oscar nomination for best actor. The actor took a 90% pay-cut to make the movie, but it’s likely he made quite a bit on the back end as it brought in $161 million, and only took $31 million to make. Washington’s only other project is 2 Guns, which is set to be released on August 2.

8. Tom Cruise: $35 million

highest paid actors tom cruise

The past year has been an equally busy and diverse year for Tom Cruise. Last June, Cruise starred as Stacee Jaxx in the karaoke-like musical comedy Rock of Ages. In December, he played the titular role in Jack Reacher, the adaptation of Lee Child’s 2005 novel One Shot, and this April, he portrayed another Jack, this time in the sci-fi film Oblivion. Though the past year has been a financial success, it’s been less so critically. Cruise hopes his return to the Mission Impossible in 2015 will help.

7. Adam Sandler: $37 million

highest paid actors adam sandler

The past year has been all financial success and no critical success for Adam Sandler, but that’s his status quo. In June, Sandler starred alongside Andy Samberg in the comedy That’s My Boy. Come September, Sandler voiced Dracula in Hotel Transylvania. Interestingly enough, the 43% it received on the movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes is his highest grade in a long time. Sandler’s most recent film to hit the box office is Grown Ups 2, where it is performing decently.

6. Leonardo DiCaprio: $39 million

highest paid actors leonardo dicaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio’s past year has been a very up-and-down one, but like his overall career, there’s been more up than down. In December, he co-starred in Quentin Tarentino’s Django Unchained, in a role which earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Golden Globes, but he ultimately lost to his co-star Christoph Waltz. In May, DiCaprio starred in the mixed-reviewed The Great Gatsby. In November, he’ll star in The Wolf of Wall Street, a role he’s already expected to pick up an best actor nomination for.

5. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: $46 million

highest paid actors dwayne the rock johnson

How far “The Rock” has come. If you’d have told us that the guy who gave up wrestling in order to pursue acting would ultimately become one of the highest grossing actors in the business, well, we’d have called you crazy. Nonetheless, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has become as big of a force on the screen as he was in the ring. And not only is he cashing in financially, but he’s blossoming into a solid actor. The past year has seen Johnson star in Snitch, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Pain & Gain, and Fast & Furious 6.

4. Mark Wahlberg: $52 million

highest paid actors mark wahlberg

Dwayne Johnson’s Pain & Gain co-star Mark Whalberg has had a year to remember as well. After having no movies come out in 2011, Whalberg got back into it with a bang last June with the hit comedy Ted. Since Ted‘s success, he’s also starred in Broken City and the aforementioned Pain & Gain. He’ll also be starring along side Denzel Washington in 2 Guns which is set to be released on August 2. Whalberg likely made the majority of his money off of Ted though, seeing as it brought in over $218 million at the box office.

3. Hugh Jackman: $55 million

highest paid actors hugh jackman

If Tom Cruise has had equally busy and diverse year, it’s nothing to the year that Hugh Jackman has had. Jackman started off the year with his least known film of the year, Butter. It barely cracked $175 thousand at the box office, so it wasn’t a big part of his income. Where Jackman did make his money, however, was on his two movies that also received critical success, Rise of the Guardians and, most notably, Les Misérables. (He also probably made money on Movie 43, but we don’t want to talk about that. Yes, that.)

2. Channing Tatum: $60 million

highest paid actors channing tatum

Ah, C-Tates. Though Channing Tatum has always been in the limelight, this past year is the year that truly pushed him into the upper echelon of A-list actors. The $60 million he earned likely doesn’t even include his biggest hit of 2012, 21 Jump Street, and that’s really saying something. Between Magic Mike, the tiny 10 Years, Side Effects, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and the currently playing White House Down, Tatum has had a monster year, financially as well as critically.

1. Robert Downey Jr.: $75 million

highest paid actors robert downey jr

It’s not even a question right now: Robert Downey Jr. is the King of the box office. He’s only had two movies come out in the past year*, but they’ve been huge ones. Downey Jr. has only appeared as one character, Tony Stark/Iron Man, but whenever he does, it’s a big payday for him as well as Disney. And as he’s now signed on for Avengers 2 and Avengers 3, don’t expect him to give up the throne any time soon. It’s nice to see his story of coming from a damaged-goods heroine addict all the way to the top where he is now.

*Marvel’s The Avengers came out last May, but it’s included in the data. It’s unclear exactly where the line is drawn.

We were surprised to see that Johnny Depp didn’t crack this year’s top 10. Depp’s two most recent films – this year’s The Lone Ranger and last year’s Dark Shadows – have been box office flops, and that’s been enough to keep him from making enough money on the back end.

No actresses in the top 10?

The reason that there are no females on this list is that they aren’t eligible. Forbes publishes a separate list for actors and actresses. Their actress list has yet to be published.

A previous version of this story incorrectly assumed that no actresses were listed because of a lower pay. There’s still the potential for this to happen, but it’s also possible that a woman did make enough money.

Regardless, it’s unlikely that any made enough money to put them near the top, and that’s still an issue. Even at these inflated salaries, women still don’t earn as much as their male counterparts.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child reviews from theater critics are glowing, so when the hell can Americans get a chance to see the play in New York?

With just days to go until The Cursed Child script book is released around the world, The New York Post’s theater reporter has spoken to sources who say the play will be coming to Broadway sooner rather than later. Producers are currently holding discussions to bring the play to NY as early as 2017.

They haven’t yet announced a Broadway engagement for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” but New York theater people say it’s only a matter of time. Word is that Friedman and Callender are in negotiations for a Shubert theater possibly for next season. They may hit Toronto first, however.

The idea of The Cursed Child hitting Broadway so soon (“next season” could mean around May 2017) will come as a relief to American Harry Potter fans who would rather not travel overseas to see “the eighth story” (though it’s a little more affordable to do so right now thanks to #Brexit). It also speaks to this important fact: It’s important to see The Cursed Child rather than reading it.

If the show does go to Toronto first as The New York Post suggests it might, a trip to Canada would also be easier for Americans. Sorry, people who don’t live in North America.

This writer saw the play in June and absolutely loved the characters and magic happening on stage. But the story is… not the best. I’m very eager to see what fans, myself included, think of the story after reading the script book this weekend.

For her part, Rowling has promised that fans around the world will get to see the play. Only time will tell if she’s hinting at a movie or a world tour:

If ‘Cursed Child’ comes to Broadway next year, will you try to see it ASAP?

The West End production currently has dates running into May 2017, but additional dates are expected to go on sale in early August.

Present day Han Solo may’ve left the main Star Wars series after the events of The Force Awakens, but the character’s time in movie theaters is far from over.

The new Han Solo film from Lucasfilm — scheduled to hit theaters in May 2018 — might turn into a trilogy for the reluctant hero, according to the New York Daily News.

The paper reports that star Alden Ehrenreich has signed a three-picture deal, suggesting that the studio intends to expand the Han Solo spinoff into a trilogy. “They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies,” a source told NY Daily News. “They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.”

This makes a lot of sense given the popularity of the character coupled with his absence in Episode 8 and beyond. We also know that Lucasfilm and Disney have many, many grand plans for Star Wars in the years ahead: The very first Star Wars theatrical spinoff, Rogue One, opens later this year. Episode 8 then hits theaters a year later (2017), followed by Han Solo’s own movie (2018). Next comes Episode 9 in 2019, followed by yet another spinoff reportedly focused on Boba Fett in 2020.

As for 2021 and beyond? Only time will tell, but we expect more movies set in the worlds of The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and now Han Solo.

The Han Solo spinoff will be directed by LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. They’re currently deep into pre-production, as this tweet from Lord this morning shows:

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with,” the directors said last July. “We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

Barnes & Noble has announced that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is already a gigantic hit. In fact, it’s the most pre-ordered book since Deathly Hallows.

It’s been 9 years since J.K. Rowling publsihed Deathly Hallows in the summer of 2007, but Harry Potter fans are evidently still eager for more stories from the Wizarding World. In a press release on Monday, the biggest book chain in the United States revealed that they haven’t seen pre-orders this huge since the last Harry Potter book.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is Barnes & Noble’s most pre-ordered book since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and we expect it to be our biggest selling book of the year,” said Mary Amicucci, Chief Merchandising Officer at Barnes & Noble in a press release. “To guarantee that our customers get the new Harry Potter book as quickly as possible, Barnes & Noble is the only national retailer that’s guaranteeing delivery of the book on August 1, for both online and ship-to-home pre-orders placed by noon ET on Friday, July 29. Our booksellers are also preparing to host big crowds for our signature Midnight Magic parties on July 30.”

If you’ve passed by a brick and mortar Barnes & Noble in the past few months you’ve probably seen the heavy promotion they’ve been doing. Headers that state “HARRY POTTER IS BACK” will clearly entice people to pre-order.

In a report from the Wall Street Journal earlier this month we learned that Scholastic was printing 4.5 million copies of “the eighth story” for the United States and Canada. This is a far cry from the 12 million printed for Deathly Hallows, but still a very large print run for a book in modern times. (Also worth noting: Many readers have switched to eBooks in the years since Deathly Hallows.)

It’s nice to see that Harry Potter fans haven’t lost their interest in the series. Perhaps the success will inspire J.K. Rowling to continue writing within Harry’s world?

The book has also been a huge success on Amazon. The Cursed Child has sat at the top of the online retailer’s bestseller list for months.

Hypable will have lots of coverage surrounding The Cursed Child once it’s released this weekend. Stay tuned! AHHHH!
