Grey’s Anatomy 12×23, “At Last,” had everything: a big death, a proposal, a break-up, and a hook-up that came out of no where.
Once again we’re reminded of Derek as Meredith becomes upset to see Owen is selling the infamous trailer. Will we ever see a Meredith Grey that’s ready to move on? One person whose excited is Amelia, she’s glad that Owen finally has a real house. However, gets a little weirded out when he wants her to move in too. Maggie and Meredith seem to think they’re moving too fast when they start talking about marriage and kids too.
Something must be in the air because a grandmother harasses Alex to go out on a date with her daughter. Of course this also highlights how he doesn’t really know where he stands with Jo. After he proposed she asked him to keep the ring and yet they’re not actually engaged yet.
Meredith can’t seem to get over that Amelia and Owen are getting so serious. She just wanted to keep Amelia busy and now it’s becoming something much bigger than that. Meredith claims that she doesn’t want to deal with all of the wedding planning but I’m guessing it goes much deeper than that.
These two just can’t seem to get along! Meredith takes out her frustrations on Amelia and tells her to get her own life. She accuses Amelia of trying to raise hers kids, take over Derek’s job, and marry her best friend’s ex. “Get your own life!” That’s just harsh Meredith.
Alex calls Meredith out for choosing to be miserable and trying to drag everyone else down with her. She doesn’t want to admit it though and storms away angrily. He also shouts at her that he pans on having a huge wedding and she has to be there as his best man.
Penny is trying to get ready for the move but Callie is acting quite distant, it looks like she might be putting some blame on Penny for the custody loss. Callie and Arizona have a tense conversation about switching a visitation day and clearly Arizona is still bitter about what happened in court.
Later, Penny offers to postpone leaving but Callie says that she already knows how it will end. Callie won’t leave without Sofia and doesn’t think Penny should give up her grant either. It looks like this couple is over, at least for now.
Callie tries to ask for another night with Sofia but it just upsets Arizona further. She points out that Callie was the one who ruined everything and is still asking for more from Arizona. Now Arizona doesn’t have anything left to give Callie. Meanwhile, Penny gets sympathy from Meredith who tells her everything will be alright.
Stephanie starts to butt in on Kyle’s case again when she realizes how sick he’s becoming. His infected device was already removed but he’s not responding to medication yet and is just getting worse, plus his tremors are back. He’s so mad at Stephanie that he doesn’t want her any where near him which just seems to make her more desperate to help. After begging Jo for information on the case, Stephanie gets worried that Amelia’s plan is too risky.
Before his surgery, Stephanie apologizes to Kyle and they seem to make up. He still wants to make it work between them and she seems ready to try again too. I can’t help but wonder if she’s just doing this so he goes into surgery with good feelings.
Despite going in with confidence, Amelia’s surgery on Kyle quickly takes a turn for the worst. When his abscess burst they’re not able to clear it out fast enough and he ends up dying. Jo tries to stop Stephanie from watching but doesn’t get there in time. Now it looks like Amelia has another person on her list that’s upset with her.
When Owen brings Amelia to see the house she asks him if they’re real. Instead of pushing Amelia away from Owen, Meredith seems to have pushed her closer. Amelia wants to know if Owen will marry her for real and it looks like he’s going to accept. Maybe she should wait until a day when she hasn’t lost a patient to make such a big decision?
Alex comes home from work to find that Jo is nearly burning the house down trying to cook. He tells her that he’s ready to get married and wants to know when she will be. Alex is ready for a commitment but Jo breaks the news that she can’t.
In an ending that I didn’t see coming, Riggs pushes Meredith’s buttons until they have a hot and heavy make out session. Will this just be a one time thing or something more? I’m dying to know!
