This morning The Academy announced that Ellen DeGeneres will helm the Oscars for her second time.
While we wait for March, let us look back at her last Oscar hosting gig in 2007.
In this first clip, Ellen meets Clint Eastwood for her first time and asks Steven Spielberg to take a picture of them together:
Ellen finds Martin Scorese in the Oscars audiences and asks him to read her screenplay:
Ellen vacuums the floor, finds some “rolling papers”:
And last but not least, her opening monologue in which she calls the opportunity to host a “dream come true”:
In a statement this morning DeGeneres said of returning for the gig, “I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say – the third time’s the charm.”
Added this year’s Oscar producers, “There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are.”
The 86th Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, March 2, 2014 on ABC. Nominations will be released Thursday, January 16, at which point any and all speculation about winners will begin to run rampant.
The 2013 Oscars were hosted by Seth MacFarlane who brought controversial but amusing entertainment to the evening. DeGeneres is a safer bet for The Academy and she’ll appeal to a wider audience because people are very familiar with her face and sense of humor.
