The BBC has just released a Doctor Who retrospective trailer that is a mash-up of 50 years of Doctor Who madness.
The trailer features a look at all official 11 Doctors from William Hartnell to Matt Smith who we have seen in previous full-length series. Peter Capaldi (the upcoming 12th Doctor), who will take over from Matt Smith at the conclusion of the Christmas episode, was not featured. The trailer also does not feature John Hurt. Hurt will play an unnamed/unknown Doctor who fits in the timeline between the 8th and 9th Doctors.
According to the BBC press release:
Travelling through time fans will be taken on a journey from the very beginning using state of the art technology. The special trailer is set to show all of the Doctors as they first appeared on screen, including William Hartnell in high res colour for the very first time, as celebrations ramp up to the 23 November.
Whereas this trailer was a great, historic look back, what most fans have been dying for is the trailer for the actual Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special: The Day of the Doctor. The trailer, to date, has only been seen by roughly the 6,000 fans who attended the Doctor Who panel in Hall H of Comic Con back in July.
Nonetheless, it seems like the BBC is finally beginning a major PR push to celebrate the November 23rd return of the series. Just the other day, the BBC released a series of new stills surrounding the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special that featured Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor), David Tennant (the 10th Doctor), Jenna-Lousie Coleman (Clara), Jemma Redgrave (Kate Stewart), and John Hurt (The Unnamed Doctor). Noticeably absent in the stills was Billie Piper, who will be reprising her role as the companion Rose Tyler.
