Doctor Who series 8 began filming on Tuesday, and to celebrate BBC One has released the first look at Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.
The photo below depicts Capaldi in a deep purple jacket and dark blue vest as he looks over a script with co-star Jenna Coleman who plays Clara Oswald. It is the same costume worn by Smith because during the regeneration the Doctor keeps the same clothes (for now).
What do you think of Capaldi’s appearance in ‘Doctor Who’ series 8?
Commenting on the start of filming, Capaldi told BBC One, “New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”
Added showrunner Steven Moffat, “First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins.”
Series 8, episode 1 was written by Moffat and episode 2 was written by Phil Ford. Both will be directed by Ben Wheatley.
Filming will take place between now and August 2014. A premiere date for Doctor Who series 8 hasn’t been set but is expected to be around when they finish filming.
Capaldi made his very first appearance as the new Doctor on the Christmas Special late last month after Matt Smith regenerated. Our recap of the episode can be seen in our previous story. In an opinion article we wrote about how Smith was the loser of the Christmas Special.
