David Tennant has been cast as the Purple Man in A.K.A. Jessica Jones, and he could not be more pleased to join the Marvel family.
Fangirls — and boys — could be heard cheering all over the world earlier this week, when Doctor Who star David Tennant was announced as the villain of Marvel’s upcoming A.K.A. Jessica Jones drama series.
Tennant will be playing Dr. Zebediah Kilgrave, the “Purple Man” with mind-controlling powers.
Speaking to Radio Times, the 43-year-old actor says, “I grew up an absolute devotee to the worlds of Marvel, so the fact that they’ve expanded into TV and film is a fact that I fantasized about when I was younger. So now to be part of it, to be on the other side of it is a thrill.”
“I grew up on Marvel comics, so it’s very exciting to be part of their ever expanding entertainment empire,” Tennant enthuses. “I’m very pleased to be part of [it].”

Whether Tennant will be fully committed to the character — and by that we mean permanently dye his skin purple for the role (and/or use temporary makeup, whatever) — has yet to be revealed. But he is wearing a purple tie in the video, so make of that what you will!
A.K.A. Jessica Jones is a web series developed for Netflix by Melissa Rosenberg. It’s based on the Marvel Comics character Jessica Jones, who will be played by Krysten Ritter.
