Legendary musician David Bowie has died following a battle with cancer.
The news was confirmed late Sunday evening by David’s official social media accounts as well as his son. We’re also learning today that David had been battling cancer since the middle of 2014.
On Facebook, his reps said, “David Bowie died peacefully today [January 10] surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
His son Duncan Jones, a Hollywood film director, added on Twitter:
Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all. pic.twitter.com/Kh2fq3tf9m

The type of cancer David battled was not shared this evening.
David’s 25th studio album titled Blackstar was released this past Friday — which was also his 69th birthday. The singer is best known for “Heroes,” “Under Pressure,” and “Let’s Dance,” but he clearly was interested in making music right until the very end.
