Disney has announced that their live-action Cinderella will open in theaters March 13, 2015, and they’ve added an additional Marvel movie to their 2016 release calendar.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the live-action Cinderella will star Downton Abbey‘s Lily James as Cinderella and Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden as Prince Charming. Another Downton actress, Sophie McShera, may play one of the wicked step sisters. The movie plans to begin shooting later this year.
The most recent casting announcement concerns the Fairy Godmother who will be played by Harry Potter actress Helena Bonham-Carter. In this version of Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother is an “old beggar” who is spying on Cinderella. A perfect wall for Bonham-Carter, if we do say so ourselves.
Disney also announced that Marvel has set a second film for release in 2016. Specifically, the yet-to-be-titled picture will open July 8, 2016.
What’s interesting is that Marvel already has another super hero movie set for May 6, 2016. This is keeping in line with their promise of releasing two films a year, but these two films are mighty close to one another
Marvel’s comic book movie line up is as follows:
– Thor: The Dark World – November 8, 2013
– Captain America: The Winter Soldier – April 4, 2014
– Guardians of the Galaxy – August 1, 2014
– The Avengers 2 – May 1, 2015
– Ant-Man – November 6, 2015
– Untitled Marvel Film – May 6, 2016
– Untitled Marvel Film – July 8, 2016
– Untitled Marvel Film – May 5, 2017
The Avengers 3 was announced last week when Robert Downey Jr. signed on for two more Avengers films, so there’s a small chance that the 2017 movie could be the that. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
