Hypable movie review: Vampire Academy is a smart, sexy movie worth the hype
Review: ‘Vampire Academy: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion’
There is no doubt who the intended audience of Vampire Academy: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion is. If you are even a casual fan of Vampire Academy (either the books or the film), this is a must purchase book, but non-fans will find little interest in them.
Vampire Academy author, Richelle Mead, has been involved with the filming process from the beginning, and the creators of this companion book have cleverly incorporated interviews with Mead as a major feature of the book. In fact, although the Illustrated Movie Companion includes the requisite chapters on costume design, casting, and writing the screenplay, the most interesting sections are Mead’s contributions as they offer insight only an offer can provide.
That said, the behind-the-scenes stories, actor profiles, and luscious photography will delight fans. And though the book comes in at just under 150 pages, Snider manages to pack an impressive amount of information and insight into the ten compact chapters.
Given this limited space, it is interesting that the team behind the Illustrated Movie Companion chose to include an entire chapter on the Vampire Academy fandom, entitled “#VAFamily.” In a trend started by Mead and continued by the film production team, this seems to be a series that is exceptionally dedicated to its fan base. The inclusion in this book is a nice touch, and one that will not be overlooked by fans.
