In new video promoting the upcoming 87th Academy Awards ceremony, host Neil Patrick Harris reveals what inspires him.
The Oscars are this Sunday, February 22! Do you know where you’re gonna be, what snacks you’re gonna be devouring and oh, right, which movies you’re gonna root for?
This year’s Academy Awards celebration is sure to be a spectacular affair, with host Neil Patrick Harris literally doing a song and dance to entertain you.
In a new behind-the-scenes featurette video, we see Neil Patrick Harris rehearsing his act, as he explains his role as the puppet master of the evening:
The video brings the nostalgia with some clips of past Oscar hosts. Harris says he’s looked to them for inspiration, and also to see what original elements he can bring to the performance.
“If anything I feel like it’s your job to be out there a lot,” Harris says, admitting that, “I gotta feel like it’s my show.” This is reassuring – after all, the biggest complaint after Ellen DeGeneres’ brilliant turn as host last year was that she wasn’t featured enough during the broadcast.

Harris also reveals that, “It’s a shockingly long process to write a single joke,” and hints at Gone Girl and Birdman references.
