The first official glimpse at Game of Thrones season 5 was rather quietly released today, offering fans a breathless look at what may be coming when the epic series returns.
In addition to flashes of new footage, the video promotes a social media experience which will presumably promote Game of Thrones season 5.

The teaser for Game of Thrones season 5 focuses on Arya Stark, startling awake after an apparently ugly dream. “I see a darkness in you,” a disembodied voice says. Images of Arya’s dark past flicker by — running through the woods, stabbing men, an iron coin — ending in a shot of what is presumably her future: A set of doors, one black and one white.
Readers of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series will instantly recognize this location. In deference to potential spoilers, however, we will only observe that these two doors are in the city of Braavos, where Arya was bound in the closing images of Game of Thrones season 4.
The video leads viewers to ThreeEyedRaven.com, where fans can gain “The Sight” via messages to their cell phones or Twitter accounts.
“You now have the power of #TheSight,” the first message reads. “Keep watch for visions of the future.”
Interestingly, the imagery of eyes, ravens, and foresight utilized by the website and video are themes that have previously belonged almost exclusively to Bran Stark. Bran’s extrasensory abilities have been developing since the first season, and last year he finally achieved his goal of reaching the mysterious Three Eyed Raven — an ancient man in a tree, who promised Bran that he will “fly.”
But the going assumption is that Bran’s esoteric storyline will not be included in Game of Thrones season 5. So what does it mean that this strange imagery is still being employed? What role will the supernatural play in Game of Thrones season 5? And how does Arya tie into all this?
Now that we have “The Sight,” maybe answers won’t be quite so long in coming.
Game of Thrones season 5 will air in Spring 2015 on HBO.
