This week’s Elementary season 3, episode 4, “Bella,” pits Sherlock against stolen computer software, but a battle with Joan lurks on the horizon!
One major issue this season must tackle is finding a way to keep Joan and Sherlock working on the same cases. This week’s Elementary plays on Sherlock’s tendency to become side tracked on a project until he can understand every facet of what makes it work. In this case, it is computer software that forces the detective to let his counterparts do the heavy lifting while he plays around.
But as the synopsis reveals, his playtime is not completely directed at solving case work for the NYPD. Instead, he is dabbling in another area that alludes him; Joan’s love life.
‘Bella’ Stills:
‘Bella’ Synopsis:
“When a groundbreaking artificial intelligence software program is stolen, Sherlock agrees to take on the case, but enlists Joan’s assistance in solving it when he becomes more interested in disproving the computer’s abilities than finding the thief. Meanwhile, Joan confronts Sherlock about his motives after she learns he has been in direct contact with her boyfriend, Andrew, without her knowledge.”
The past two seasons, and especially the opening of season 3, prove that Sherlock may not be able to muster up apologies at the right time, but he does have Joan’s best interest at heart. His intentions with Andrew in this week’s episode are going to be another example for the “Poorly Chosen Ways to Show I Care” list. But will Joan be a quick to let an invasion of privacy go this time around? We certainly hope she sticks to the new attitude she has with Sherlock this season and does not let him off the hook that easily!
As for Kitty, maybe Sherlock’s distractions will offer her a chance to gain valuable hours of practice!
