An X-Men spinoff featuring Channing Tatum as Gambit has been confirmed, with writer Josh Zetumer set to pen the script.
Deadline reports that the Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum has finally been confirmed, with Robocop writer Josh Zetumer joining the film. The studio has officially attached Tatum to the role, and he will also be producing the film with his production partner Reid Carolin, along with Lauren Donner and Simon Kinberg.
Channing has been extremely excited about potentially playing the mutant from down south. Tatum told MTV back in May, “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. I would love — Gambit’s my really only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I [mean] I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, [but] I don’t know I guess just being from down south — my dad’s from Louisiana and I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida — I don’t know I just related to him.”
The 22 Jump Street star says that he hopes that Gambit could join the ranks of other X-Men or even possibly making a solo film with the character if Fox was willing. Looks like his dreams will come true, as the studio has now confirmed he will star in the film.
Tatum has been moving up the ranks as of late, and was awarded MTV’s trailblazer award this past year. He’ll be appearing in Jupiter Ascending alongside actress Mila Kunis on February 6, 2017.
Fans seemed excited to potentially see Gambit be included in the X-Men franchise, which has been revitalized by the success of X-Men: First Class, and its sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. Channing Tatum has proven that he’s talented and we think he’d be great in the role of the New Orleans-based mutant.
Channing Tatum can be seen next in Foxcatcher on November 14, and has the sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending landing in theaters early next year.
