Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has joined the cast of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Smith will join the already large cast of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the film adaptation of the book of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith, which itself is based on Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Grahame-Smith’s novel credits Austen as a co-author.
Smith will star as Mr. Collins, who is the heir to the estate of Mr. Bennet and eventually proposes to the novel’s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a play off of Austen’s novel with an obvious twist: the story is injected with elements of modern zombie fiction. The novel is set in an alternate universe where zombies roam the English countryside.
The cast that Smith joins includes Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, and Douglas Booth. The film will be directed by Burr Steers from a script by Steers and the multi-Oscar nominated screenwriter David O. Russell (who has also been nominated for his directing).
Smith recently finished shooting Terminator: Genisys with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning as the titular cyborg, Game Of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, and Day Okeniyi as Danny Dyson, son of the cyborg developer played by Joe Morton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
