Good news for fans of Boy Meets World spinoff, Girl Meets World! Disney has just announced that it has renewed the kid’s comedy series for a second season.
If you’re among the many who has enjoyed seeing the adventures of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel) daughter, Riley manifest itself on television, then you’re in luck. Disney has just announced that it plans to renew the popular Boy Meets World spinoff for a season 2 after just five episodes.
Since airing on the Disney Channel in June, the spinoff has been ranked as the top series for kids ages 2-11 and in tweens, ages 9-14.
Disney Channel’s worldwide original programming executive vice president, Adam Bonnett released a statement commenting on the renewal of Girl Meets World, saying, “The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with Boy Meets World. We’re looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way.”
Bonnett makes a fair point about adults enjoying the series as much as kids. Waves of nostalgia swept millenials when The Disney Channel announced plans to make the Boy Meets World spinoff a reality. Fans of the original series were only too pleased when Disney also announced the return of actors Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, who reprise their roles as one of the most popular couples in T.V. history. With plans to feature Boy Meets World alumns like Will Friedel, Rider Strong and more on Girl Meets World, it looks as though the Disney Channel has plans to keep fans of the original series just as entertained as the new generation of kids they’re introducing to the Matthews’ spunky daughter, Riley.
Girl Meets World airs Fridays at 8:30 p.m. on The Disney Channel.
