If you haven’t already seen the leaked premiere, you’ll be able to go to select theaters in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland this fall to witness Peter Capaldi’s Doctor appear on Doctor Who for the first time.
In a partnership with Fathom Events, BBC America will release the premiere episode of Doctor Who series 8 in hundreds of theaters across the United States.
The series 8 premiere, titled “Deep Breath,” will get a limited release in 12 cities on the night Capaldi’s episode premieres – August 23. However, the theaters will be showing the episode at midnight instead of the 8 p.m. premiere time on your local BBC America channel. If you would like to attend one of these 12 showings, then head over to http://www.fathomevents.com on August 5, when more details will be revealed.
After the initial limited release, “Deep Breath” will be released in 550 additional theaters nationwide. U.S. fans will be able to visit http://www.fathomevents.com to buy tickets for their local theater, or buy the tickets in person.
For those of you in the U.S. unable to make it to any of the 550 locations, BBC America is planning quite the line-up on their channel leading up to the premiere, which includes the following:
“Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion” on Saturday, August 16, 9 p.m. eastern.
“The Real History of Science Fiction” on Saturday, August 16 at 10 p.m. eastern.
“Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord” on Monday, August 18 10 p.m. eastern.
Concluding with “The Doctor Who Takeover Week” marathon on Monday, August 18 at 8 a.m. eastern.
Additionally, Doctor Who fans can vote for their favorite episode of the series starting on August 6 at http://bbcamerica.com/. The leading episodes will then be put in a marathon on BBC America on Sunday, August 24.
What about fans not in the U.S.?
If you’re a Doctor Who fan but don’t live in the U.S., you still have a chance! U.K. fans will also be able to witness the series 8 premiere in theatres.
An exclusive cinema event will take place in London’s Odeon Leicester Square on August 23 with special guests that have yet to be announced. The event will include a screening of a “never seen before” five minute video from an upcoming Doctor Who DVD release, followed by a Q&A with the guest stars that will also be live-streamed into participating theaters across the U.K. and Ireland.
